A Miracle is a Mind Transformed

In a world where cutthroat competition and stringent bottom lines often dictate the corporate environment, it’s rare to encounter a story that juxtaposes the hard-nosed world of business with the transformative power of faith and virtue. But sometimes, it is within the least expected places that we witness the profound impact of compassion, forgiveness, gratitude, and humility.

Encountering a Different Kind of Leader

My career path serendipitously intersected with an individual who embodied not just the acumen expected of a chief executive but also the heart of a truly good person. Our company, fraught with an unhealthy work culture and problematic employees, seemed primed for a typical corporate purge. As issues mounted, so did my belief that the only solution lay in layoffs. Yet, the executive’s approach was antithetical to my expectations. He extended grace where I anticipated judgment, offering mentorship over punishment — even to a manager whose misguided attempt at intimidation brought a gun into the office.

A Christian Example in Corporate Garb

This leader was a devout Christian, living out the scripture of Matthew 5:16, demonstrating his faith through actions. He was a mentor to me, showcasing the feasibility of conducting business with a grace that seemed otherworldly.

A Journey Towards Faith

Inspired by his example, I began to explore his source of inspiration — Jesus Christ, the exemplar of all role models. As an engineer and an individual with autism, my approach to faith was methodical, measured, and rational. Despite extensive research, attendance at Bible studies, and lectures, I was not met with a sudden revelation until a pastor presented faith through a simple yet profound two-dimensional graph:

This visualization bridged the gap between logic and the multifaceted necessity of God’s existence in our psychological, moral, philosophical, and spiritual lives.

Exploring the Existence and Necessity of God

The question of God’s existence led me to apologetics, where books like “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist” by Frank Turek provided compelling evidence that satiated my rational inquiries. However, the more crucial question was “Should God exist?” This I answered through the lens of human history and the undeniable impact of Christian values on monumental societal changes, such as the end of slavery in the British Empire.

Recognizing the True Miracles

I came to understand that miracles are not just grand, inexplicable events but can also be the profound internal transformations within us. Elon Musk had a great quote:

Most people don’t change their mind, they just die.

When Moses crossing the Red Sea, a miracle which put the fear of God into the Israelites escaping the Pharaoh. Their faith lasted all but 3 days, after which the escapees reverted back to their old habits of thinking.

Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea …
For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water…
So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”
— Exodus 15:22–24

After the miracle, their faith lasted all but 3 days!

Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Transformation

This year, I also found love, got engaged, and despite the tribulations, I felt more alive than ever. It reminded me of this saying:

Some people die at 25, but aren’t buried until 75

Stagnation is akin to death, and my journey towards faith has been a journey towards life.

In conclusion, Christ has been more than a savior; He has been the North Star guiding me towards a life of continuous growth and internal revival. This transformation, this rekindling of the spirit, is a miracle in itself. As I’ve learned, a true miracle is not just a spectacle for the eyes but a revolution of the mind and heart.
